Since Opening Day, April 16, 2009, through Sunday’s 1:05 p.m. game vs. the Twins – featuring the club’s annual Bat Day giveaway – the Yankees and Bank of America have teamed up to support Food Bank for New York City’s “comBAT Hunger Food Drive” by donating $100 for every hit the Yankees record during a game at Yankee Stadium as well as creating a public service announcement, featuring pitchers CC Sabathia and Joba Chamberlain.

In addition, the “comBAT Hunger” program allows Yankees fans to get involved and make a difference. Fans can log on to www.foodbanknyc.org and make their own contribution to help eliminate hunger in New York City.  Bank of America will match the total on-line fan donations (up to $50,000) made through Sunday, May 17. To date, fans have pledged more than $20,000.

New York Yankees and Bank of America will commemorate the collective fundraising achievements of the “comBAT Hunger” program by presenting a check to Food Bank for New York City during the pre-game festivities on Sunday, May 17.  On Tuesday, May 19 at noon, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman and members of the front office will appear at Food Bank for New York City Warehouse in the Bronx, located approximately five miles away from Yankee Stadium, to volunteer their time by receiving and packaging food items for distribution through all five boroughs. More details will be provided at a later date.

Food Bank for New York City provides approximately 300,000 meals daily for New Yorkers in need – the majority of which are children, women, seniors, the working poor and people with disabilities.  Yankees fans are reminded that a contribution of $1 can help provide five meals for those in need.
