Tuesday, July 16 — On a bright, hot summer day in mid-July, a dozen volunteers from the Yankees’ front office distributed nearly 1,000 bags of food to their neighbors in the nearby community, welcoming them with big smiles, shelf-stable groceries and fresh produce packed with rice, beans, fruits, and vegetables.

Building on the Food Bank For New York City’s longstanding partnership with the New York Yankees, the joint pop up distribution initiative at Yankee Stadium began in May 2021 during the pandemic, when many people turned to Food Bank for NYC for the first time. Since then, these distributions have become a reliable lifeline for the members of the Bronx community, helping to feed 500 families each month.

The Yankee Stadium distributions typically occur in the second half of the month to support families who have already exhausted their SNAP benefits. They are especially vital during the summer, when children are out of school and rely on meals at home.

The Food Bank For NYC offers their heartfelt appreciation to the Yankees for their willingness to mobilize their time, energy and resources in the fight against food insecurity.
