For 36 years, we have been dedicated to extinguishing hunger and its root causes for all of our neighbors in need, regardless of race or socioeconomic status. We know that lack of food access and racial inequality go hand in hand, and we cannot and will not ignore the sobering reality that the African American community and people of color disproportionately suffer with poverty and food insecurity.
Throughout Food Bank’s history, our commitment to serving all New Yorkers with compassion, dignity, and respect has extended beyond just providing food. Our work and advocacy remains centered on these values. We will lend our voice against the violence and hatred that have no place in our society, and we will continue to work tirelessly for equitable access to food for all of our neighbors.
It is not just enough to say “Black Lives Matter.” We must live it.
This is a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. It is vital for us to take the time to listen, learn from each other, and find new ways to create lasting change. The best in humanity will prevail if we stand together and take action against hate and violence.
In this time of crisis, and always, we are there for those who need us now more than ever, providing food for today, help for tomorrow, and hope for the future.
