Four Decades of Rising to Every Challenge
New Yorkers can count on us as a lifeline through every crisis.

2001
Feeding First Responders After The Towers Fell
In our city’s darkest hour, we mobilized quickly to deliver 3 million pounds of food to Ground Zero and nearby communities—laying the foundation for the emergency network we lead today.

2008
Stabilizing Lives During The Financial Crisis
When food insecurity surged, we expanded SNAP outreach and launched financial empowerment programs to help 3.1 million struggling New Yorkers.

2012
Respond to Hurricane Sandy
Despite citywide devastation, we kept food flowing to nearly every zip code. Our team delivered critical supplies, mobilized our partner network, and introduced mobile pantries to reach the hardest-hit neighborhoods.
The impact: 4.5 million meals, 15,865 volunteer hours, and $23M in tax refunds. Two years later, we were still there providing recovery support.

2017
Hurricane Maria: Relief for NYC and Puerto Rico
We transformed operations overnight to meet an 80% increase in need, creating innovative distribution models and strengthening healthcare partnerships to ensure no New Yorker was left behind.
Through “New Yorkers United,” we collected 60,000 pounds of food and supplies for Puerto Rico, proving that NYC’s compassion knows no borders.

2020
Doubling Food Output During The Global Pandemic
When the city shut down, we stepped up. Under CEO Leslie Gordon’s leadership, we doubled our annual output from 70 million to nearly 150 million pounds of food during COVID-19, reaching 90% of NYC zip codes through drive-thru pantries, senior-only hours, and home deliveries with Uber Eats and NYCHA.
