Side By Side With New Yorkers
As NYC’s largest hunger relief organization, we deliver food, resources and dignity — across every borough, background and barrier. Together with about 800 community partners, we cover nearly every zip code to build stronger, more resilient communities and help New Yorkers lead healthier, happier lives.
40 Years of Serving Our City
How We Show Up
Where we Focus

Beyond Food
A full life starts with a full plate—but our work doesn’t stop there. Through our Food+ initiative, we serve the whole New Yorker with SNAP assistance, personal finance support, connections to health support, and more to build self-sufficiency and create lasting stability. By addressing both immediate hunger and its root causes, we’re building foundations for brighter futures. We don’t just feed people. We fuel potential.
Fresh Produce
As NYC’s fresh produce leader, we’ve prioritized fruits and vegetables since day one. Last year alone, we delivered over 26 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables—because nutritious food shouldn’t be a luxury.
From leafy greens to pink pineapples and plantains, we provide the kind of fresh, culturally meaningful ingredients we’d be proud to serve our own families. By prioritizing produce, we help New Yorkers shop the outer aisles of the supermarket —where the food’s fresher, greener, healthier, and grown.

Food is Health
We believe food is health. By serving our city with fresh produce and nutrition education, we fight diet-related disease, support childhood development, and build healthier communities. Every apple, every class, every shared meal is part of our prescription for a stronger New York.
But we go further—offering health screenings, partnering with hospitals and community clinics, collaborating with the CDC on research, and hosting workshops on diet-related conditions. Together, we help New Yorkers manage existing illnesses—and prevent them before they start.
Because food insecurity fuels chronic illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure, we hold ourselves to higher standards—guided by NY State nutrition guidelines, sourcing culturally relevant foods, and delivering programs like Just Say Yes that give New Yorkers tools to stay healthy long after a meal.
Culturally Relevant Food
Food doesn’t solve hunger if people can’t eat it. That’s why we offer inclusive options that honor the religious, cultural, and dietary needs of our city—from Halal and Kosher items to vegetarian staples and pantry essentials for our diverse communities.
We offer more than 100 culturally and religiously observant foods, adding 30 more just last year—including whole grain masa flour, dates, and yuca—recognizing food’s central role in every community and home.

Women And Girls
Women often eat last so their families can eat first. Too many NYC mothers are forced to make tough choices—diapers or dinner, formula or food. Nearly 1 in 5 women live below the poverty line. For single mothers, the need is even greater.
We empower women beyond the plate, providing SNAP help and nearly 1 million pounds of personal care items, menstrual products and childcare resources each year so they and their families can thrive.
High Need Communities
We focus resources where needed most across every borough, block, and barrier. We listen to what our neighbors tell us they need while tracking the data that shows which communities hunger hits the hardest. With 40+ trucks, mobile pantries, and partner-led distributions, we respond quickly and equitably—bringing healthy food and support directly to communities facing the greatest challenges.

How We Strengthen the System
We address the root causes of hunger to help New Yorkers not just get food today-but get off the line for good.
