The Farm Bill impacts all New Yorkers.
The Farm Bill supports the farmers who grow our food, provides the food that food banks
and struggling communities rely on, and funds the vitally important SNAP program that is a
lifeline for struggling families to put nutritious food on the table.
We’re fighting to strengthen the Farm Bill so families can thrive.
The next Farm Bill has the power to protect New Yorkers and people in need nationwide -
from hunger. Food Bank For NYC rely on federal programs like The Emergency Food
Assistance Program (TEFAP) to meet the growing community need for help. New York relies
on SNAP as a vital hunger fighting program for families to afford groceries and as an
economy driver supporting small business. See our top Farm Bill priorities below.
Strengthen TEFAP with additional funding and increase administrative and farm support
We’re pushing to increase TEFAP funding by $500 million and boost grants for storage and
infrastructure to $200 million to improve food availability and delivery citywide.
We’re urging to boost the TEFAP Farm to Food Bank Program, including increasing funding
and removing the state match to support local farmers and allow pantries to offer more
culturally relevant food options for clients.
Protect SNAP by delaying damaging cost shift to states
Delay the upcoming SNAP cost shift by two years for all states to have the time needed to
stabilize operations, improve accuracy, avoid state tax increases or deep budget cuts, and
protect benefit assistance for those who need it most.
