Food Bank For New York City is grateful that we can count on our fellow New Yorkers to mobilize for our neighbors in need during times of disaster. Hurricane Dorian has unleashed widespread devastation across the Bahamas, leaving thousands without electricity, access to food, clean water, or medical supplies. Many charities within our member network serve communities with high populations of Bahamian residents and are organizing local response efforts to send whatever aid they can. We are asking our friends and partners to send support in the form of cash donations to the organizations below to help get food, water and other supplies to hurricane survivors in dire need.
World Central Kitchen
Humanitarian and 2019 Can Do honoree, Chef José Andrés, and his non-profit organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) was one of the first organizations on the ground in Abaco Island in the Bahamas. WCK is providing more than 20,000 fresh meals to shelters, schools, hospitals, and more across the Bahamas.
HeadKnowles is raising funds to help grassroots first responders – the thousands of volunteers on the ground in Abaco, Bimini and Grand Bahama – provide meals, shelter, equipment, and other essentials to displaced individuals and families.
Bahamas Red Cross
The Bahamas Red Cross is working directly to provide food, water, and emergency shelter needs to the families affected by the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. Donate funds or non-perishable goods, baby items, cleaning items and bedding.
