BRONX, N.Y. – Food security is about more than just food. It requires the infrastructure to move millions of pounds of nutritious food to communities across our city.
That’s why we were proud to welcome Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to our Hunts Point Food Distribution Center on Monday, September 21, to celebrate $6 million in Congressional Directed Spending that she and Senator Chuck Schumer helped secure for our facility. The funding will support major renovations and modernization of the center.
We were honored to be joined by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Assemblymember Amanda Septimo, and Council Member Justin Sanchez. Bob Silvia, our Chief Procurement and Operations Officer, also took part.

At the Center of Our Work
As New York City’s largest hunger-relief organization, we rely on our Hunts Point Distribution Center to get food to New Yorkers facing food insecurity. At 90,000 square feet, it is the city’s largest hunger-relief logistics hub. Last year, more than 90 million pounds of food moved through the Food Bank For NYC network, including nearly 31 million pounds of produce.
This investment will help us keep meeting that need today and in the years ahead.

Stronger Together
Our partnerships with elected leaders are essential to addressing food insecurity in New York City. We are grateful to Senator Gillibrand, Senator Schumer, and everyone who recognizes that strengthening the food safety net means investing in both people and the systems that support them.
