With Thanksgiving around the corner, Dina and Marco in the Bronx are doing everything they can to keep their family fed. After losing SNAP, they turned to Food Bank For NYC’s Mobile Pantry down the block—just as they did during the 2019 shutdown.
“It means everything,” Marco said through tears, as Dina shared she’s been skipping meals so her husband and daughter can eat. Thanks to your support, they’ll have food on the table when their daughter comes home from college for the holiday.
Help families like theirs share a meal this Thanksgiving. Give today.

Song Recording:
Gotta go for it!
Marco:
That’s a “badda bing” right there.
Dina:
That’s a “badda bing”!
Marco:
You are a trip.
Dina:
My heart is already pounding because you’re making me laugh so much.
Marco:
I…I lean against her. She leans against me, and that’s how we do it. That’s how we make it.
Dina:
We’re we’re gonna be what? Eleven years? February sixth?
Marco:
This is the best.
Dina:
We have a fourteen-year-old at home. She’s in New York Harbor School.
Marco:
Ready for the other one? And tell her!
Dina:
And the nineteen-year-old, she’s in Cornell University on a full scholarship.
Marco: Pizzamong!
Interviewer:
How how proud are you?
Dina:
Very proud. Very proud.
And the other ones, they’re all grown.
Marco:
Five. Three in the military. Army rehab.
Dina:
Yeah. What the government is doing so that it’s been a struggle for us.
We’ve been stressed out completely. But my neighbor came and she said, “Listen. They’re giving out food over here.” And I was like, “Okay. Let’s go because we need it.”
You know? Even though our daughter is over there in college right now, she’s coming home for Thanksgiving. What am I gonna do if she comes home and there’s nothing in my house to celebrate Thanksgiving?
Mobile Pantry Volunteer:
Oh, would you like some strawberries?
Dina:
I’ve been in pantries for, I wanna say, a good two weeks. So, we’re just hoping that something happens. But we are grateful that you guys are here giving us food because we do need it.
It’s all the help we can get. We do need it.
Marco:
You guys are exceptional. Let me tell you. This is this is awesome.
I’m gonna take it. I feel like crying.
Dina:
So do I.
Couple of years back when it was the first government shutdown, we were on a pantry line as well. There’s been times that I wake up in the morning and I just make sure my daughter and he eats, and I won’t eat anything all day.
Marco:
That’s correct.
Dina:
Because I wanna make sure he eats and my daughter eats.
Marco:
And I have to call her like, “Honey, did you eat? Did you eat?”
Dina:
Do you understand me?
Just recently, I went to the heart doctor, and the heart doctor said, “You’re under too much stress. You have to calm down.” I can’t calm down because of what’s happening right now.
Where I’m gonna find food for my kids, you know? But my doctor said, “Don’t worry about it. God opens doors.” And look, God opened the door for us right now.
Marco:
This was awesome.
Dina:
We feel great because we’re able to eat dinner today and eat lunch because you guys have blessed us with this. We wanna thank you for everything you guys have done for us. But please keep giving because you’re keeping us in our homes. You’re helping our children eat.
You know? And that’s what we need. We need more people to help us.
Marco:
And also, thank God I won’t get my child busted today.
She’s in good spirits to go. She’s okay now. She’s okay. I’m gonna I’m gonna be okay for a good time. Wanna say…
Dina:
Two weeks? Two weeks.
Marco:
I went too far.
