Media Personality and Activist Aims to Provide 50,000 Meals for New Yorkers
NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2025 — For the first time in U.S. history, millions of Americans could go without their SNAP benefits this November, leaving families in New York City, unsure of how they’ll afford groceries. Moved by the urgency of the crisis, Charlamagne Tha God, Food Bank For NYC’s ambassador and passionate hunger relief advocate, has donated 25,000 meals for New Yorkers in need, and he’s challenging others to join him by matching every donation made, up to an additional 25,000 meals.
With the USDA confirming on October 24 that it does not plan to use contingency funds to cover SNAP in November, the crisis is real. SNAP benefits are a lifeline for 1.8 million New Yorkers – working adults, children, seniors, veterans and those with disabilities – who rely on SNAP to help buy groceries and nutritious food.
“For many families, Thanksgiving may be off the table,” said Charlamagne Tha God. “We’re talking about working families, children, and seniors who depend on SNAP just to get by, and now they’re facing the possibility of having nothing. I’m matching donations to remind people that New Yorkers take care of our own.”
If fully matched, that’s a total of 50,000 meals to help fill the gap during one of the most critical moments of the year.
