Biography
Malaika Walker is joining Food Bank for NYC as a participant in the 2026 Emerging Leaders Advocacy Council, where she will be supervised by Elvis Santana. Beginning January 23rd, Malaika is looking forward to strengthening her knowledge of policy, advocacy, and leadership while advancing Food Bank for NYC’s missions of food security and justice.
Malaika was originally drawn to FBNYC through her regular volunteering at the Community Kitchen in West Harlem and witnessing the positive impact that the Community Kitchen has on her neighborhood. She hopes to bring with her a joyful and focused perspective to advocacy for food security across NYC.
Through her experience in leadership on a number of political campaigns, work with the International Campaign to Abolish nuclear weapons, and participation in the ACLU National Advocacy Institute, she brings a commitment to advocacy work that centers the voices and well-being of those most aected by systemic injustices. Malaika is currently earning a bachelor’s degree in Peace and Justice Studies & Political Science from Pace University.
In a city as wealthy as New York, no one — especially children — should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.
