Biography

Martha Escobar is a homemaker, philanthropist, and investor who has worked extensively with civic organizations in New York and the Upper West Side in particular.

Martha served as President of the Board of Trustees at La Escuelita, one of the city’s first bilingual English-Spanish preschools, where she led a capital campaign and shepherded the school’s relocation to a new, expanded home. She continues to serve as Treasurer of the school. She is also Treasurer of the West Side Soccer League, one of the top-2 largest AYSO chapters in the United States, serving nearly 3000 players from the West Side and beyond. Martha’s extended stints as Treasurer reflect her passion for nonprofit finance and financial strategy.

Martha was a Board Member at The Cathedral School for St. John the Divine for 8 years, serving as Secretary, Executive Committee member, and Co-Chair of the Members Committee. She currently serves as a Co-Chair of Cathedral’s Strategic Planning Committee in an Emeritus capacity.

On moving to New York, one of the first things Martha’s family did was to join the American Museum of Natural History. She is proud to serve as Co-Chair of the museum’s Members Advisory Council.

Martha is a native of Chicago and the daughter of Mexican and Colombian parents. She qualified for free lunches throughout her childhood and was the only member of her high school graduating class of 500 to attend college outside Illinois, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Princeton University in 1994.

Martha has four children and resides in New York City with her husband. A devoted soccer fan, she is a soci (club member) at FC Barcelona and has attended the last three Women’s World Cups.
