Bridging the SNAP Gap

Even though the federal government re-opened, the impact of its shutdown is still being felt, far beyond the federal workforce. An estimated 1.6 million New Yorkers are now struggling amid the SNAP Gap – created when February SNAP benefits (food stamps) were disbursed early during the shutdown. These New Yorkers are now attempting to stretch a benefit meant to cover 2 weeks’ worth of food for 6 weeks. If you’re a NYC SNAP recipient, Food Bank stands ready to help bridge the gap. Listed below are pop-up distributions where we’ll be providing food and other resources, as well as a map to locate your nearest emergency food provider.

Please be sure to have your EBT card with you. We’ll be providing food, products, and vital information for New Yorkers facing food insecurity in the wake of the shutdown. Interested in supporting Food Bank’s post-shutdown relief efforts? You can donate and volunteer for our neighbors in need!
