Food Bank's CookShop Program to Reach 35,000 Children and Families in Public Schools & Afterschool Programs
Nearly 1,000 New York City public school teachers and other classroom personnel, will participate in a day-long nutrition education training where they will be trained to bring Food Bank For New York City's CookShop nutrition education program to low-income children and families in more than 1,500 public elementary classrooms and afterschool sites, on Saturday, October 22, starting at 9:45 AM, at 52 Broadway, (United Federation Of Teachers Building), Manhattan.
At a time when 3 million New Yorkers are struggling to afford food, and nearly 40 percent of New York City public elementary school children are obese or overweight, New York City public school teachers and staff will help set children and families on the path to a healthier lifestyle. CookShop exposes children to healthy food at an early age, and gives low-income New Yorkers of all ages the skills, knowledge and motivation to make healthy food choices on a limited budget, using hands-on workshops to teach cooking skills and foster enthusiasm for fresh, affordable fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains.

CookShop is funded by the USDA and administered with the support and partnership of the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the NYC Human Resources Administration.
