Disaster Relief

Food Bank For New York City plays a vital role in responding to emergencies that impact the city and our nation. As one of the largest food banks in the country, the scale of our normal operations — which include providing millions of pounds of food to approximately 1,000 community-based member programs throughout the city's five boroughs — creates the potential for the Food Bank to provide significant aid to people affected by disasters.

Red Cross Partnership
By coupling the Food Bank's expertise and efficiency in food distribution with the Red Cross's capabilities in responding to disasters, the organizations are prepared to deliver nourishing food, water and supplies quickly to New Yorkers affected by crises including terrorist acts.

Hurricane Katrina
In the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Food Bank activated our emergency response plans to help provide victims with much-needed basic food and supplies.

September 11
Immediately following the tragedy of September 11, 2001 the Food Bank served as a major hub for the disaster relief and recovery efforts led by Feeding America.
