The IRS recognizes the Food Bank For New York City as the largest coordinator of civilian tax assistance in the country.

Food Bank volunteers, who have received IRS certification, help provide as much as $100 million in tax refunds for New York City's working poor annually.

Direct Services


In New York City, 1.3 million people — the majority of whom are women, children, elderly, the working poor and people with disabilities — rely on emergency food. The Food Bank's direct services enable us to connect directly with individuals in need to address the symptoms and causes of food poverty. 


Community Kitchen & Food Pantry of West Harlem
Through a soup kitchen and food pantry, our Community Kitchen & Food Pantry of West Harlem helps provide approximately 1,000 free meals per day.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
The Food Bank's CSA Program connects Harlem with New York State farmers to bring healthy, fresh and affordable food to low-income New Yorkers.

Food Stamp Direct Service & Outreach
As the premiere food stamp outreach and enrollment organization throughout the five boroughs, our Food Stamp Direct Service & Outreach Program works to educate and connect directly with low-income New Yorkers to ensure access to this key piece of the hunger safety net.

Food Stamp Training & Advocacy
To ensure that eligible New Yorkers have access to this key piece of the hunger safety net, the Food Bank's Food Stamp Training & Advocacy Program helps hundreds of community-based organizations citywide to act as food stamp resource and application centers for their communities.

Tax Assistance
One of the largest programs of its type in the country, the Food Bank's Tax Assistance Program has completed up to 50,000 tax returns for low- to moderate-income New Yorkers annually — helping to provide as much as $100 million in tax refunds.
