Media Advisory: Sandra Lee and FedEx Deliver For The Food Bank For New York City
4,000 lbs. of Produce + Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Dessert + Community Support = The Right Ingredients in Support of the Nearly 50% of Women Who Have Difficulty Affording Food
Sandra Lee, Food Network star and editor-in-chief, Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade magazine and FedEx will team up to make a special delivery to the Food Bank For New York City’s Community Kitchen and Food Pantry of West Harlem, 252 West 116th Street on Wednesday, May 19th, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, in celebration of the Kitchen’s first-ever “Ladies Day” which honors the moms, grandmas, aunts and sisters who are often the backbone of the family.
Teams of FedEx volunteers will unload an in-kind donation of 4,000 lbs. of fresh produce off their FedEx truck; while Sandra Lee arrives with one of her exquisite Semi-Homemade desserts for the expected crowd of 75 women (+ kids) who will enjoy a special meal of sumptuous orange chicken and Sandra Lee's delicious recipe for vegetables and potatoes. When all is ready, FedEx volunteers and Ms. Lee will serve the meal.
Almost one-half of women (46 percent) have difficulty affording food, up 64 percent since 2003. Almost one-half (47 percent) of households with children experience difficulty affording needed food for themselves and their families. In New York City, 1.4 million people are accessing emergency food including one out of every five children.
