Food Bank Bites

PBS’s “Bill Moyer’s Journal” examined the 2007 Farm Bill and the nationwide emergency food shortage in April.

Watch this excellent piece of reportage featuring the Food Bank For New York City and food assistance programs in the five boroughs.

Virtual Food Drives

Many of our corporate and foundation partners, as well as individuals, participate in the themed Virtual Food Drives — which allow the Food Bank to provide more food than through a traditional canned food drive — held online throughout the year.

All you have to do to help raise funds through our Virtual Food Drives is give us your information and logo, and we will set up your page. Then just set a fundraising goal and invite coworkers, friends and family to help you reach it!

The Food Bank's themed Virtual Food Drives address current problems — including the Fill Our Warehouse for the Holidays drive, which helped raise close to 70,000 meals for New Yorkers in need in response to a severe shortage in emergency food. Other Virtual Food Drives are held in connection with the Food Bank's many annual fundraising campaigns such as the Virtual Turkey Drive, which was held in connection with Thanksgiving for Five and helped raise 330,000 meals during the 2007 holiday season. As part of the 2009 NYC Goes Orange campaign — the Food Bank's biggest campaign of the year, which asks companies and individuals to "Go Orange," the color of hunger awareness — the Food Bank is currenlty recruiting supportes for the Go Orange Online Virtual Food Drive. If you are interested in joining the Help Fill Our Warehouse Virtual Food Drive, contact us or register online today!

In addition, some our donors go that extra mile by using our Virtual Food Drive tool to create their own fundraising events around events such as marathons, weddings or bar or bat mitzvahs.

To register for one of our current Virtual Food Drives or to create your own, contact Davinia Buckley, Special Projects Assistant
