Check-Out Hunger

Check-Out Hunger
Fight hunger while on line — the grocery line, that is. During this annual, citywide hunger-relief campaign, grocery shoppers can make a donation to the Food Bank at the check-out of participating supermarkets throughout New York City. Efforts from the 2007 Check-Out Hunger campaign have so far contributed funds for more than 620,000 meals for New Yorkers in need! For Check-Out Hunger 2008, ShopRite, Fairway, Pathmark, King Kullen and Foodtown stores throughout the five borough are coming together to help raise funds for hunger relief. During NYC Goes Orange — the Food Bank's annual, citywide fund- and awareness-raising campaign — city landmarks, media partners, restaurants, supermarkets, your favorite shops and more show their support by "Going Orange," the color of hunger awareness. Over the 2007 holiday season, our NYC Goes Orange partners and individual donors helped raise more than three million meals for New Yorkers in need. Help us do more in 2008 — "Go Orange" today!

Virtual Turkey Drive

Virtual Turkey Drive
Every November, the Food Bank For New York City helps make sure that all New Yorkers can enjoy Thanksgiving by distributing turkeys and all the fixings to our network of food assistance programs. You can help support our efforts to fight hunger throughout the five boroughs by participating in our annual Virtual Turkey Drive — where the donations may be virtual but the food is real! Our 2007 Virtual Turkey Drive raised funds for more than 340,000 meals. Help us do more in 08!




Holiday Food Drives
When: November 2008
At the Food Bank, the holiday season is food drive season. Every year close to 100 businesses, schools and other organizations get in the spirit of giving by raising canned food to help provide free meals served to New Yorkers in need at our network of more than 1,000 community food programs throughout the city. In 2006, holiday food drives helped provide more than 4,000 free meals for New Yorkers in need! The Lunchbox Auction

The Lunchbox Auction
Join Mario Batali and Michael Stipe for an auction of custom lunchboxes designed by celebrities from the entertainment, fashion, music, art, and culinary worlds — all to benefit hunger relief. Help kick off the auction on December 11 at the exclusive kick-off party, hosted by Gourmet! Then, do your part December 12–18 by bidding on your favorite custom-designed lunchbox by Mario Batali, Beastie Boys, David Chang, Tom Colicchio, Cameron Diaz, the cast of "Gossip Girl," Eva Mendes, Mike Myers, Ellen Page, Michael Stipe, Liv Tyler, Gourmet's Ruth Reichl and Sara Moulton and many others. Each lunchbox is numbered and signed; no two are alike.

Time Out For Hunger

Time Out For Hunger
Indulge and help New Yorkers in need! Every March, more than 90 of the city's top restaurants donate 10 percent of a day's proceeds to the Food Bank through Time Out For Hunger — a partnership between the Food Bank and Time Out New York. In 2007, New Yorkers who dine out for Time Out For Hunger helped raise more than 230,000 free meals for New Yorkers in need. Check back to see how we did in '08!




Can-Do Awards Dinner

Can-Do Awards Dinner
The Food Bank's annual Can-Do Awards Dinner offers a chance to honor our partners in fighting to end hunger in New York City — and is our largest fundraising event of the year. The 2008 dinner recognized the Food Bank's 25th Anniversary working to fight hunger and included cocktails, live music, dinner, auctions and raffles. The night was hosted by Co-Chairs Mario Batali and Susan Cahn, Honorary Dinner Chair Michael Stipe and Emcee Stanley Tucci and honored Gwyneth Paltrow, Helena Christensen, Acosta Sales & Marketing Company, MTV Networks and West Side Campaign Against Hunger. Stamp Out Hunger

Stamp Out Hunger
For a week every May, look out for food drive bins at your local post office, when the National Association of Letter Carriers conducts its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. In 2008, food drives held in Brooklyn and Queens helped raise food for more than 25,000 free meals!




Taste of the Nation

Taste of the Nation
Eat, drink and help end childhood hunger! At Taste of the Nation, an annual tasting event to benefit hunger relief, guests sample dishes from New York City's top restaurants, a great selection of wine and cocktails created by NYC's most knowledgeable mixologists.
