Corporate Grants
The Food Bank has a long history of partnerships with corporate and foundation grantors to help carry out our mission, from general operating support to underwriting programs and special initiatives. We work closely with a number of local and national companies, through regular feedback and reporting, to apprise them of the use and effectiveness of their grants to the Food Bank.
We are always looking to broaden our base of support...especially with businesses interested in investing in the New York City community.
For more information about corporate and foundation giving and other granting opportunities, contact Patrick Mooney, Director of Philanthropy.
Sponsorships
Food Bank For New York City has a wide range of annual and specialized programs, activities and events that provide sponsorship opportunities. Annual corporate sponsorship opportunities include NYC Goes Orange, the Can-Do Awards Dinner, Time Out For Hunger, the Annual Agency Conference, Check-Out Hunger, the Lunchbox Auction and the Toast & Jam donor-recognition event. See event information below.
For every $1,000 in program or event costs that a company saves the Food Bank through sponsorship, we are able to provide 5,000 free meals to hungry New Yorkers.
Sponsorships can have outstanding marketing benefits for a corporation as well. Sponsorships are regularly recognized in our:
- Newsletter
- Website
- Annual Report
- Advertising and promotional expertize
- Event Programs
- Press materials and recognition
- President's remarks
If your organization is interested in a sponsorship opportunity, please contact Tricia Rumola, Director of Business Partnerships.
In-Kind Donations
From desks to design services, the Food Bank has a number of capital, product and service needs that can often be met through in-kind donations from corporate partners. Items in frequent need are:
- Advertising placements
- Catering services
- Computer equipment
- Corrugatedboxes
- Creative services (brochure and poster design, etc.)
- Trucks and vans for food distribution
- Event spaces
- Printing services
- Product samples (e.g., items for event gift bags)
- Raffle items (e.g., gift certificates to a store or restaurant)
Whatever your company's nature, an in-kind donation is often an efficient and easy way to help the Food Bank. In-kind donations are generally tax-deductible.
For further information about in-kind donations, contact Tricia Rumola, Director of Business Partnerships.
Matching Gifts
Matching employee contributions is an increasingly popular way for a company to demonstrate support for its employees and community. When an employee makes a donation to the Food Bank, the company's matching donation of the same amount doubles the impact of the gift.
A variation is "employee directed" or workplace giving, whereby employees choose to which charities their company's funds will go.
In either case, the Food Bank can provide promotional materials to educate company staff about food poverty in New York City and the work of the Food Bank and its network of food assistance programs. We can even come to your company to make a presentation, or invite employees to our warehouse to see the Food Bank in action!

Volunteering
There may be no more effective way to help employees feel good about their company and themselves than by participating in a company-sponsored volunteer opportunity. At the Food Bank we are always looking for help repacking bulk containers at our 90,000-square-foot warehouse. Or if a company prefers, we can connect volunteers to opportunities at our more than 1,000 food assistance programs throughout the five boroughs.
Volunteering builds team spirit and self-esteem and saves the Food Bank valuable time and money that can then be spent on distributing more food. It can also provide a fascinating look behind the scenes of a highly efficient distribution operation that has distributed more than 800 million pounds of food over 25 years.

Virtual Food Drives
The food may be virtual, but the help is real! Virtual Food Drives, which raise "virtual food" through online donations, can be created and customized specifically for your organization. The Food Bank will help you shape your team- and company-specific pages to reflect your company's brand, while promoting your philanthropic mission. Every $100 your staff gives helps us provide a food pantry with enough food for 500 home-cooked meals. Find out more:
Why Run a Virtual Food Drive?
- EASY TO USE: There is no need for employees to remember to bring in bulky food for a canned drive. The Food Bank assists in online setup and customization.
- SIMPLE TO ORGANIZE: A tailored Virtual Food Drive with your company's logo and messaging can be easily organized within your company through email, or placed on your company's extranet with the investment of minimum resources.
- LOWER COSTS: The Virtual Food Drive reduces the operational costs, including transportation and man hours, involved in a traditional food drive.
- TEAM BUILDING: Corporations are given full access to periodic financial updates so you can track the success of the campaign for internal morale-building purposes.
