Having already written blogs about cookies, bakesales and hot dogs, I thought it was only natural to continue my food-themed entries. This week’s post is about BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis, a wonderful event pairing US Open tennis stars with tasty treats from some of the city’s best restaurants.
The Food Bank hosted and benefited directly from the silent auction, and although I was on my feet all night encouraging people to bid, bid, bid…I did get to sample some of the fabulous food!
I am a sucker for small plates and tapas-style dining, and this event was truly the grand slam of tastings. Chefs from restaurants like PUBLIC, Double Crown, The Stanton Social, Hill Country Barbeque Market and many more served bite-size portions of their most popular menu items. After tasting everything from ceviche to fried quinoa balls with anchovies, I even managed to squeeze in a moist and delicious vanilla crème brûlée layer cake. It was a long and exhausting evening, but things just seem so much better when really good food is involved….and an Andy Roddick sighting doesn’t hurt either!
